Pregnancy

This is one of the most physically demanding times in a woman's body. Preventive care during this time is so key to having you feel well during your pregnancy. During a session with a pregnancy patient we work on:

During a session with a pregnancy patient, we work on:

  • Pelvic alignment

  • Keep your core firing and functioning efficiently through your pregnancy

  • Decreasing pressures on your pelvic floor

  • Prepping you for labor and delivery

  • Reducing pregnancy aches and pains

Pregnancy Injuries we treat

  • Pubic Symphysis - Pubic bone pain hurts in the front of your pelvis.  It can be incredibly painful with rolling over in bed, stairs, and sometimes even walking.  Using manual therapy and exercise we balance the pelvic bones to get rid of the pain and teach you strategies and exercises to prevent it from returning.

  • Sacroiliac Pain - This softening of your ligaments from pregnancy hormones can compromise your SI Joint function and cause some naggy pain.  As pregnancy weight is gained, your feet rotate outward to increase your base of support.  This shortens the hip muscles, making them less effective. The end result is ultimately more pressure on bones/joints without effective shock absorption. But when treated we can take so much pressure off these joints.

  • Tailbone pain - Coccyx pain is pain in the tailbone area.  It can feel like pain or sometimes even the feeling that there is a hole in your pelvic floor.  This particular pain is often caused by the tailbone getting “stuck” in the wrong position and it takes a special skill set to help the bone return to its pain-free home

  • Pelvic Floor Weakness/Dysfunction - Leakage of urine, feelings of prolapse, pain, tightness and/or weakness in your bottom can all be signs of pelvic floor dysfunction.

  • Urinary and/or Fecal Frequency - Peeing more frequently than every 2 hours, waking at night to pee, or trouble starting your stream or emptying completely.

  • Stress Incontinence - Leaking pee or poo with jumping, coughing/sneezing, laughing

  • Urgency Incontinence - Leaking pee associated with urge to go

  • Mixed Incontinence - Having symptoms that are a mix of urge and stress incontinence

  • Headaches - Tension in the head and neck can occur from postural changes, changing activity levels

  • Back Pain - Postural changes in pregnancy in addition to the growing belly can strain the low back and SI joints.  Manual therapy combined with exercise intervention can get your body feeling good again.

  • Prolapse - Your pelvic floor muscles often get weak and stretched out after having a baby and/or chronic straining with poops or peeing. When this happens, your organs can start to drop into your vaginal canal. It can feel like pressure, heaviness, low back pain, like you are sitting on something, like a foreign object is between your legs, and/or your partner hitting something with sex.

Reviews from our AMAZING clients!

“I have been working with Sarah for the last few months as I prepare for the birth of my first child. She has been amazing and she made small changes to the way I move that has fixed some of the pelvic pain I was feeling before working with her.”
