Postpartum Recovery at Empower Movement Physical Therapy

Because Every Mom Deserves to Feel Whole Again

After pregnancy and birth, your body has changed sometimes in ways that feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or just plain frustrating. Whether you’re weeks or years postpartum, you deserve to move through motherhood feeling strong, supported, and empowered in your body.

We always say: Every mom needs a set of hands on her tummy after birth. Core and pelvic floor rehabilitation isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.

No symptoms? Great. Let’s keep it that way. An assessment helps prevent little issues from becoming big ones

What We Assess in Every Postpartum Evaluation

Your recovery is multi-layered. That’s why we assess the entire body, every time:

  • Posture: Head, neck, shoulders, rib cage, spine, pelvis, and legs

  • Breathing: Diaphragm function, rib cage expansion, thoracic mobility

  • Abdominal Wall: Scar tissue, adhesions, rib flare, diastasis recti, umbilical hernias, visceral mobility

  • Spine & Pelvis: Alignment, joint mobility, core strength

  • Pelvic Floor: External and/or internal assessment including tailbone (coccyx)

  • Upper Body: Shoulder, elbow, wrist, thumb pain or dysfunction

  • Lower Body: Hip, knee, ankle, foot pain or imbalance

Common (But Not Normal) Postpartum Issues We Treat

You’re not broken—and you’re not alone. Here are some of the issues we help moms resolve:

  • Leaking urine/incontinence when coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting, jumping

  • C-section shelf and restricted scar tissue

  • Core weakness or poor activation (especially during movement)
